Pengaruh Aplikasi ChatGPT terhadap Kemampuan Menulis Teks Laporan Observasi Siswa Kelas VIII

This study aimed to investigate the effect of using ChatGPT as a learning medium on students’ ability to write observation report texts among eighth-grade students at MTs Al Washliyah Bajaronggi in the 2025/2026 academic year. The study was conducted in response to students’ difficulties in developing ideas, organizing information, understanding text structure, and producing systematic observation reports.
This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The participants were 44 eighth-grade students, consisting of 22 students in class VIII A as the control group and 22 students in class VIII B as the experimental group. Data were collected through observation report writing tests administered before and after the treatment. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an Independent Samples t-test.
The mean pretest score was 65.00 for the control group and 67.50 for the experimental group. After the learning process, the mean posttest score increased to 68.18 in the control group and 79.77 in the experimental group. The Independent Samples t-test yielded a significance value of <0.001, which was lower than 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference between the two groups.
The findings indicate that the use of ChatGPT as a supporting learning medium affected students’ ability to write observation report texts. ChatGPT can support idea development, text organization, and feedback when used under teacher guidance. Its implementation should ensure that students verify information and develop their writing based on their own understanding.
