Abstract

Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata or KKN) represents one of the implementations of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education by providing students with opportunities to contribute directly to community life. This study aims to describe the process of participatory community empowerment through the implementation of KKN programs in Tambun Sungkean Village, Onan Runggu District, Samosir Regency

This study employed a descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and the direct involvement of students with community members during the implementation of the KKN programs

The findings indicate that KKN can serve as a means of strengthening community participation through activities designed according to local needs and village conditions. Community involvement was evident in the planning, implementation, and evaluation stages of the programs. Collaboration among students, village government officials, community leaders, and residents emerged as an important factor in supporting program implementation and continuity.

KKN can function as an effective platform for participatory community empowerment when its programs are not merely oriented toward completing activities but also emphasize community involvement, local potential, and collaborative processes. Such an approach positions the community as an active actor in village development rather than merely as a recipient of university-based community service programs.
